“Engage your senses for Fall/Winter.”

Trend notes from a buying trip at Maison et Objet Paris, and in Italy.

Now in September our focus turns to the Fino Lino Fall/Winter Collection. Having already attended trade shows and worked extensively with our suppliers we now have a strong sense of how the current collection will develop through to Spring/Summer 2018.

The final touches will be made at Maison et Objet in Paris, then we are off to Milan to visit Pratesi and Etro for Summer Collections for 2018. After a few days of rest in magnificent Firenze we will visit Dea to work on our private label program & in Florence.

Our buyers are specifically looking for certain items, such as cashmere blankets, throws and robes. The focus is on “Made in Italy, the “Capital of Cashmere”, renowned for the softest cashmere, exquisite design and generational finishing techniques.  Quality craftsmanship and origin is always our concern but also working conditions, care of the animals and sustainability.

Our other wish is to find products that complete our vision for the collection. Armed with information and excellent walking shoes we set out on our buying journey.  Our neo-classical roots favoring clean lines embellished with elaborate fabrics and finishing guides us to be true to who we are.  Recently, Fino Lino was referred to as “modern classic” by one of our talented Interior Designer clients.

“Engage your senses for Fall/Winter”

The theme of the season is artistic, colourful and collectable with indulgent shapes and sensuous curves.

There are two colour palettes, one being dark and sultry with deep emerald, aquamarine, turquoise, fig purple and raspberry with a sprinkling of hot pink, alongside new gold, spicy marigold, red, dusty pink and retro peach.

The other is a quiet palette of mushroom, cool espresso, gray, and black and stormy purple with hues of indigo.

Often we take our inspiration from fashion and follow suit with sophisticated winter whites, soft pinks and metallics for a dressed up, glamorous aesthetic. There is a very strong movement towards Chanel inspired textured tweeds, with feathers appearing in unusual applications.

Intelligent use of highly textured base fabrics in bedding with very developed colour combinations create strong dramatic contrast.  Although the season is highly dramatic and glamorous the casual white bed with an air of carefree unconcerned abandonment will always be a timeless classic along with neutral palettes dressed up with pops of colour.

We have already bought coloured glass and newly shown metals of brass and tempered gold and metallic pinks. Stone inspired home accessories may indeed be the most coveted object to collect for Fall.

Le Jacquard Francais gave us early inspiration with their new tabletop collections, as has Tricia Guild with her outstanding collection showcasing velvets, textured co-ordinates and classical florals. There is also a renaissance of highly decorative paint finishes and over embellished upholstery with glorious hand-crafted Passementerie.

We look forward to introducing our new collection with great anticipation, and a love of materializing your personal vision of your home.
